“English available” on a clinic page can mean any of four arrangements, and only one of them puts English in the room with the doctor. Ask one question before you book — Who will I speak English with during the consultation: the doctor, a coordinator, or an interpreter? — and you will know which level you are getting.

The four levels

Clinics rarely describe themselves this way. The words that usually mean Level 2 are “English coordinator”, “foreign patient centre” and “international desk”. “English-friendly” without a noun usually means Level 3.

What is checkable in advance, and what is not

The frustrating part of this question is that the level is decided in a room you have not entered yet. What you can do from abroad is measure the things around it. None of them is the level itself.

That is the honest shape of it. Three of the five rows are answerable from a laptop, and the two that matter most are not. The rest of this guide is about getting as much value as possible out of the three, and then asking one question to settle the fourth.

Step 1 — Count the English pages on the clinic’s own site

A clinic that maintains hundreds of English pages has staff who write English every week. That is not the same as staff who speak it in a consultation, but zero English pages alongside “English OK” is a claim worth testing.

Seven Gangnam dermatology clinics were checked on 13 August 2026. Two had substantial English sites: GU Clinic Gangnam Branch 410 of 1,562 pages, and Seye Clinic 374 of 1,763. One had a single English page, V&MJ Dermatology at 1 of 120. Four had none — Heer Dermatology Clinic, Nine Dermatology Gangnam Branch, Toxnfill Gangnam and PHD Dermatology Apgujeong.

On 16 September 2026 the count was repeated against a different set: the Gangnam skin clinics listed in English on K-Beauty Station. Nine of the twelve have a countable sitemap.

Read the “where” column before the number. Different things are sitting in the same table:

• A translated site. GU Clinic Gangnam Branch keeps 432 English pages of 1,598 URLs (27 per cent) under /us on its own domain — the largest English section of any single clinic’s own site among the nine measured. Its listing shows a 4.9 rating from 10,000+ reviews.
• A chain site. Abijou’s 743 English pages of 4,708 URLs (16 per cent) are the largest absolute count here, but they cover Gangnam, Hongdae, Myeongdong and the rest of the chain together. You cannot attribute them to the Gangnam clinic alone.
• A separate English host. DIORE Clinic and GD Clinic both put their English somewhere else — a different domain and a different subdomain. Their English is real and reasonably deep. A visitor who only ever sees the Korean site will conclude there is none.
• A landing page. Le Well Clinic’s single English page is a poster, not a site. It tells you the clinic wants foreign patients. It tells you nothing about the consultation.

Three of the nine publish no English page at all, on sites of 49, 69 and 131 URLs. That is not a verdict on the clinic. The check simply cannot be run on it, so more of the weight falls on the next two steps.

Step 2 — Read the listing page too, not only the clinic site

A booking platform page states the hours, the address and the published prices. You can check each of them before you write to anyone. Twelve Gangnam skin clinics are listed in English on K-Beauty Station, counted 16 September 2026. Eleven of the twelve publish all three; Le Well Clinic publishes hours and prices but no street address.

All twelve open between 10:00 and 11:00 on weekdays and close between 19:00 and 21:00 on a full weekday, so an appointment after a working day is realistic almost everywhere, with two exceptions marked in the table. CELLIN Clinic Gangnam and UH CELL Clinic Gangnam have short midweek days that end at 17:00. Six of the twelve open on Sunday and five stay open on public holidays. That table needs four cautions before you use it.

1. “Gangnam” here is the platform’s own bucket, not the district. Seven of the twelve are registered in Seocho-gu, four in Gangnam-gu, and one lists no address at all. If you are matching a clinic to a hotel, read the address rather than the label.
2. The number of priced items varies from 1 to 32. Between them the twelve publish 116 priced items. Reverse Clinic Gangnam alone accounts for 32 of those; AB Clinic publishes exactly one. A long price list is a sign the clinic is used to being compared in advance, and that is the habit you want in a clinic you are writing to from abroad.
3. The cheapest listed item among these twelve is ₩8,900 — an event offer at Reverse Clinic Gangnam — and the most expensive is Le Well Clinic’s ₩5,850,000 premium full package. Event prices are withdrawn without notice. Treat the low end as a snapshot, not a rate card.
4. A published price is a published price, not a quote. What it covers is the thing to confirm in writing, which is also the thing a Level 3 phone-translation exchange is worst at.

GU Clinic Gangnam Branch is the worked example used through this guide. It is listed on K-Beauty Station at 54 Seocho-daero 77-gil, Seocho-gu, rated 4.9 from 10,000+ reviews. It opens 10:30–21:00 on weekdays and 10:30–19:00 at weekends and on public holidays, with no closing day, and its eight priced items run from ₩29,000 for the Premium Skin Solutions programme to ₩1,990,000 for Thermage FLX 600 shots. It is the only one of the twelve open to 21:00 on every weekday. AB Clinic matches that on Friday alone. Its own site also carries the most English of the nine measured. That is a useful pairing. It still does not tell you who will be speaking in the room.

Step 3 — Ask the question in the messenger, in English

The speed and quality of the reply is itself the answer. It helps to know in advance which app you will be asking in. That too is measurable.

Across the English listings, the messenger button is uniform: all twelve Gangnam skin clinics, and all 27 skin clinics on the platform, show WhatsApp and nothing else. Not one posts KakaoTalk, an Instagram DM handle or an email address on its English page. Across all 137 listings on the platform, the English page shows WhatsApp on 134 and WeChat on one.

What does change is the language you read the page in.

So if you do not use WhatsApp, install it before you start writing to Gangnam clinics rather than after. And the channel is chosen by the platform for the language, not by the clinic for you, so the app you are handed is not evidence of anything about the clinic’s own English.

Nothing on these pages answers the walk-in question either. Zero of the twelve state a walk-in policy. What all 137 listings carry instead is the same reservation-and-payment wording: contact the channel, agree a date, pay on site after the visit. Same sentence, every venue. Treat platform-wide boilerplate as boilerplate. Get the clinic-specific answer from the clinic.

Step 4 — Ask whether the doctor’s explanation of risks will be in English

If the answer is “our coordinator will explain”, you are at Level 2. That is workable. Know it going in. Ask the coordinator to repeat the doctor’s exact words rather than a summary of them.

Step 5 — For a registered foreign-patient clinic, check the registry

Clinics that treat foreign patients as a business are registered with the Korean government. The list is public. What registration does and does not guarantee: what is a registered foreign patient provider?

What changes in the consultation

At Level 1 you can negotiate the plan. At Level 2 you should bring the plan written down: what you want looked at, what you have had before, what you react to — and ask the coordinator to translate it before the doctor comes in. What to write is in what to send before a consultation. At Level 3, keep the visit to a consultation and decide on treatment later, in writing.

The published prices in the table above are useful here in a way that is easy to miss. Walking in with a number you have already read — your listing says ₩29,000 for the Premium Skin Solutions programme; is that what we are discussing? — converts a large part of the conversation into confirming figures rather than translating them. That is the part of a consultation a Level 2 relay handles well, and it leaves the relay’s limited bandwidth for the part it handles badly.

What to do with the reply

A reply that names a person — our English coordinator will be with you for the consultation — is Level 2, and the visit will work as long as you arrive with your questions written down and ask for the doctor’s own words on risks. A reply that is a sticker or a single “OK” is Level 3: keep the first visit to a consultation and decide on treatment afterwards, in writing. No English reply at all is also an answer. What none of this measures

Page counts are not language skill. A clinic can maintain 432 English pages and still run its consultations entirely through a coordinator; a clinic with none can have a doctor who trained abroad. The count measures how much English the clinic writes, which is a real signal and a weak one.

Two sets of clinics appear above, and they are not the same set. The 13 August count covers seven Gangnam dermatology clinics chosen from their own websites. The 16 September count covers the Gangnam skin clinics listed in English on one booking platform. GU Clinic Gangnam Branch is in both. Most of the others are in one or the other.

Three of the twelve were not counted. AB Clinic, Dr. Evers Gangnam branch and UH CELL Clinic Gangnam have no English page count in this round. Their rows in the hours-and-prices table are complete. Their English column is blank because it was not measured, which is a different thing from zero.

A sitemap is not a whole website. Pages that exist but are not declared in robots.txt do not appear in these counts. A zero means not found by this method.

Prices and hours move. Event items in particular are withdrawn without notice, and one of the twelve price ranges above starts on one.

Do the big Gangnam clinics all have English coordinators?

Many do, and the busiest advertise it. "Many" is not "all": check the clinic's own page and ask. Nothing published settles it either way — of the twelve Gangnam skin clinics listed in English on K-Beauty Station, zero state on their listing page what language the consultation runs in, and zero state a walk-in policy (checked 16 September 2026).

Does a listing on an English platform mean English in the room?

No. An English listing means you can read the price and book in English. K-Beauty Station runs its own consultation in six languages and shows each venue's messenger channels, but the page does not say what is spoken in the consultation room; the question above still applies.

Is an interpreter worth paying for?

For a consultation about a lifting device or an injectable, usually not; a Level 2 coordinator covers it. For surgery, yes.

How much does a medical interpreter cost in Seoul?

Clinics do not publish a rate. Cost and scheduling are arranged with the interpreter, so ask for both in writing before the appointment rather than on the day.

Which clinics have the most English to read?
