How Do You Get to Incheon Airport from Seoul? All 5 Options Compared (2026)
In one line: The choice is not really “what is fastest” — it is whether your luggage, your departure time and your starting point make the ₩13,000 express worth it over the ₩4,750 regular train, and for a surprising number of trips the answer is no.
All fares and times below were checked against operator sources in July 2026. Korean transport fares change on fixed dates rather than gradually — verify on the official page before you rely on any of it.
What are the actual options, and what do they cost?
Five ways, and they separate cleanly by what you are optimising for.

The single biggest cost decision is the first two rows. The Express is ₩8,250 more than the regular train to Terminal 1 and saves you roughly 15 minutes. Whether that is worth it depends almost entirely on the next question.

Which one should you actually pick?
- Staying near Seoul Station or Hongdae, light luggage → regular train. It stops at both, and you are paying a fifth of the price for about 15 extra minutes.
- Checked bags and a Terminal 2 airline → Express, and use the Seoul Station city check-in. Handing over your suitcase in the city is the real value here, not the 15 minutes.
- Hotel near a bus stop, two big suitcases → airport bus. No stairs, no transfers, one seat the whole way.
- Three or more people → taxi. Split three ways it is competitive with three Express tickets, and it is door to door.
- Flight before 07:00 → night bus or taxi. The trains do not start early enough.
How does the AREX Express train work?
It is a non-stop, reserved-seat service between Seoul Station and the two airport terminals. It is not a subway ride you tap through with a transit card — you buy a ticket for a specific seat.
How much is it, and how long does it take?
₩13,000 for an adult. From Seoul Station it is 43 minutes to Terminal 1 and 51 minutes to Terminal 2.
First departure from Seoul Station is 06:00; the last is 23:00.

So the only discount is the ₩500 for booking online with an account on the AREX site — worth doing if you were going to book ahead anyway, not worth creating an account at the station for.
Can you check your bags in before leaving Seoul?
Yes, and this is the Express’s strongest argument. The City Airport Terminal on level B2 of Seoul Station handles check-in, baggage drop and immigration — it is the only place in Korea where you can clear immigration in the city rather than at the airport.

You have to finish in time: 3 hours before a Terminal 1 departure, 3 hours 20 minutes before Terminal 2. Having cleared immigration in the city, you use a dedicated departure route at the airport instead of the main queues.
Two conditions catch people out. It is only for Express ticket holders — a regular-train ticket does not qualify. And it only covers certain airlines.
Which airlines can use the Seoul Station check-in?

Individual routes are sometimes excluded even when the airline is listed, so confirm with your airline if this is the reason you are choosing the Express.
How is the regular AREX train different?
Same tracks, more stops, far cheaper, and you tap through with a transit card like any subway line. It also connects to the wider subway network, which the Express does not — if you are transferring from another subway line, the regular train is the only one you can transfer onto.
What does it cost, and from where?

These prices rose on 28 June 2025. If a guide quotes ₩4,450 from Seoul Station, it predates that change and everything else in it deserves a second look.
Trains toward the airport run from 05:20 until around midnight from Seoul Station. Journey time is roughly an hour to Terminal 1, a little more to Terminal 2.
When is the airport bus the better call?
When you are carrying more than you want to drag through a station. The bus takes your suitcase in the hold, gives you one seat for the whole trip, and stops near a great many hotels that are nowhere near an AREX station.
Typical adult fare is around ₩17,000 — route 6001 via Seoul Station and Myeongdong is ₩17,000 (₩12,000 for children), and route 6009 via Daechi-dong is ₩17,000 (₩11,000). Allow 70 to 80 minutes, and more in rush hour: this is the option most exposed to traffic.
Route 6001 leaves from bay 29 on level B1 at Seoul Station, first bus 05:39, last 22:49.
One recent change worth knowing: since 5 March 2026, route 6001 requires you to buy a ticket at the ticket office rather than simply boarding. Check your specific route’s rules with the operator before you turn up, because they vary.
What if your flight leaves before dawn?
This is where the bus earns its place, because the trains simply are not running. The N6000 night bus runs from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Terminal 1 with departures around 23:20, 00:00, 01:40, 02:20, 03:00 and 03:30, taking roughly 70 to 80 minutes for about ₩17,000.
If you are not near that route, a taxi is the fallback — at the night surcharge described below.
How much is a taxi to Incheon Airport, really?
It is metered, not a fixed fare, so anyone quoting you a single number is estimating. The rules, which are fixed and public, are these:

Why do most guides overstate the taxi fare?
Because they add a surcharge that does not apply.
Seoul taxis normally add 20 percent for trips outside the city boundary, and Incheon Airport is obviously outside Seoul — so guide after guide applies it. But the airport is designated a shared operating zone between Seoul, Incheon and neighbouring Gyeonggi cities, and Seoul’s official fare rules state plainly that the out-of-city surcharge is not applied on this route.
So if a guide tells you to expect a 20 percent intercity surcharge to Incheon Airport, it is inflating your estimate — and the totals built on top of it are inflated too. Check a live fare estimate in Kakao T or Naver Map for your actual pickup point; that is the only number worth trusting.
What about a private transfer or a rental car?
A private transfer is worth its premium in one specific case: you are three or more people, or travelling with elderly parents or small children, and your accommodation is not near Seoul Station, Hongdae, Myeongdong or Dongdaemun. You book a fixed price ahead, the driver meets you, and nobody carries a suitcase down a staircase. Outside that case, the taxi does the same job cheaper.
A rental car only makes sense if the airport run is part of a wider driving trip. For the airport alone it is the worst of both worlds: you pay for the car, the fuel and the tolls, then still have to find the return lot and allow extra time for it. Note that you drive on the right in Korea, and that most international visitors need an International Driving Permit.
What has changed recently that older guides get wrong?
Three things, all inside the last 18 months:
- AREX regular fares rose on 28 June 2025. Seoul Station to Terminal 1 went from ₩4,450 to ₩4,750, and every other airport-bound fare rose by the same ₩300. A great many English-language guides still show the old figures.
- Asiana Airlines moved to Terminal 2 on 14 January 2026. If you are flying Asiana and following an older guide to Terminal 1, you will land at the wrong building. Allow extra time either way, as the move has slowed check-in.
- Route 6001 began requiring ticket-office purchase on 5 March 2026. Turning up expecting to board and pay is no longer enough on that route.
The pattern is worth internalising: Korean transport fares change on announced dates, not gradually. A guide that was accurate a year ago is not slightly out of date, it is wrong by a specific amount — which is why every figure above carries the date it was checked.

It is metered, not a fixed price, so the honest answer is to check a live estimate in Kakao T or Naver Map before you ride. What you can rely on is the rule set: a mid-size taxi starts at ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then ₩100 per 131 m. You pay the ₩3,200 expressway toll on top. Between 22:00 and 04:00 a night surcharge of 20 to 40 percent applies. Crucially, the 20 percent out-of-city surcharge does NOT apply to Incheon Airport — it is a shared operating zone — so any guide adding it is overstating your fare.

Night buses cover the gap. The N6000 runs from Seoul Express Bus Terminal to Terminal 1 through the night, with departures around 23:20, 00:00, 01:40, 02:20, 03:00 and 03:30, taking roughly 70 to 80 minutes for about ₩17,000. Otherwise a taxi is your only option, at the 20 to 40 percent night surcharge. The first regular AREX train leaves Seoul Station at 05:20 and the first Express at 06:00.
Which terminal do I need, 1 or 2?
Check your ticket, because this changed recently. Asiana Airlines moved to Terminal 2 on 14 January 2026, joining Korean Air, Delta, Air France and KLM. Terminal 1 keeps most other carriers, including the low-cost airlines. The two terminals are a separate stop on both the train and the bus, and getting it wrong costs you about 10 minutes by train or 40 by free shuttle.
