Your Phone for a Korean Beauty Trip: eSIM, Local SIM or Roaming, and What Each Unlocks
Every appointment in this guide can be booked from your own country, on your own number. The booking form on K-Beauty Station takes a foreign number through a country-code selector, and salons take Instagram and WhatsApp. What a Korean number adds only matters once you land: a local line the venue can call, the Korean-only apps, and a fallback when a verification SMS to your home number does not arrive. Data is the part you will actually use every hour.

Almost every visitor ends up with one of two products: a 7-day data eSIM, bought before you fly and installed by QR code, or a prepaid SIM carrying a Korean number, collected at an airport counter on arrival. Prices move between providers and seasons, so check them on the provider’s own page on the day you buy rather than trusting a figure in a guide.
What each choice means for a beauty booking
Roaming or a data-only eSIM covers the whole K-Beauty Station flow. You sign up with an email, verify your own number, give a messenger contact, and get confirmations by SMS and email. Keep your home SIM active for the SMS. It also covers Instagram DM, WhatsApp and platform bookings. What it does not give you is a number the front desk can dial if you are late.
A Korean number adds that number, and it opens any Korean app that insists on a local one, but it does not make a Korean-only booking sheet readable, and it does not make the confirmation call arrive in English. If the venue you want books only through Naver Reservation, passport verification now works instead of a Korean number. The sheet is still in Korean.
Do not buy a “temporary Korean number” from an SMS-code website. A number you do not control cannot receive your confirmation, your reminder or the clinic’s questions, and a booking made on it is one you cannot be reached about.
What the venues actually publish as a way to reach them
Before you decide how much phone you need, look at what the other end publishes. We read all 137 K-Beauty Station store pages listed in English on 16 September 2026. Not one of them puts a phone call at the front of the booking. Every page carries the same reservation-and-payment note. It routes you to the store’s messenger channel, and the store confirms the date with you there. You pay on site after the visit, with any advance reservation fee flagged beforehand. None of the 137 pages states a walk-in policy.
Which messenger you are handed depends on the language you are reading, not on where your SIM was issued:

Page counts are the store URLs in each language in the platform’s own store sitemap, read 16 September 2026. The per-store channel breakdown was counted on the English pages. Use the English total of 137 for an English-language trip. Across all six languages the platform lists 142 stores, five of which have no English URL in the sitemap.
KakaoTalk is not the gate here. No store page offers KakaoTalk as its English channel, and not one of the 27 skin clinics publishes a KakaoTalk or email contact anywhere on its page. Twelve of them link an Instagram account, but as a profile to look at rather than a way to book. If a KakaoTalk account was the only reason you were going to buy a Korean SIM, these bookings do not need one. The published channel is a messenger in every case, which makes data the requirement, not a number — and a data-only eSIM is data.
Before you count on a phone call, look at who is on the other end of the messenger thread. Several stores publish the same WhatsApp contact:

Counted across the 27 skin clinics on the English pages, 16 September 2026. The lower two rows are one brand’s own branches. The top row is not: eight separately named clinics share that number, and so do 79 other listings on the platform. The pages do not say whether a shared number is the clinic’s own line or a coordinator handling several stores. Read no more into it than the sharing itself. The practical consequence is small but real: the person who answers may not be sitting at the front desk of the clinic you picked, which is one more reason to get a written date and time rather than an “OK”. It is also one less reason to assume a Korean number would have put you through to the treatment room.

What the form actually asks for
Read on 16 September 2026, the booking form behind the Book now button asks for the date and time you want, then for details about you. That button is on 69 of the 137 English store pages; the other 68 route you straight to the messenger. None of those details needs a Korean number:

The passport instruction is the one people skip. The clinic’s front desk will match that name to your passport when it registers you, so a nickname here costs you time later. There is no resident-registration-number field. The form’s own note says you may be contacted on your mobile number instead, if your messenger ID cannot be verified or messages cannot be delivered there. So enter a number you can actually answer, whichever SIM it lives on.
Worked example: GU Clinic Gangnam Branch in Seocho-gu, rated 4.9 with 10,000+ reviews, lists 10:30–21:00 Monday to Friday and 10:30–19:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, plus eight priced treatments from ₩29,000 to ₩1,990,000. It is one of the 68 with no Book now button, so the Chat button is the way in. Everything on that page — the hours, the prices, the messenger — works from your own number abroad. What the page does not publish is a last-registration time. If you are arriving near closing, ask in the messenger first.
The hours that decide whether being reachable matters
A phone only earns its keep in the gap between “I am running late” and “the door is locked”. Of the 137 stores listed in English, 134 publish weekday hours (LUX CARE, O!GET! and ARZTIN publish none). Here is when they shut, taking each store’s latest closing time in the week:

Two-thirds of them — 92 of 134 — are shut by 20:30. On this measure the commonest last door of the week is 20:00 (30 stores), then 21:00 (26) and 19:00 (22). That argues for data rather than for a number. Land in the evening wanting to fix something for tomorrow and you are typing, not calling, because nobody is there to answer. GU Clinic Gangnam Branch sits in the 20:31–21:00 band on weekdays and closes two hours earlier at weekends, which is the shape most clinics here have.
Eight of the 134 close after 22:00, all of them open seven days, and at those venues a same-evening message can still land on the same evening — they are worth keeping in your notes:

Districts are taken from each page’s published address. That is not always the neighbourhood the store is tagged under — HI SPA is listed under Myeongdong, but its address is in Jongno-gu. Sunday is published by 88 of the 137 stores. For the rest the page simply does not say, which makes it a question for the messenger rather than an assumption.
None of this changes with a Korean SIM. The hours are the hours, the channel is a messenger, and the thing that gets you an appointment on a Tuesday evening is having data and having asked early.
If the verification code does not arrive
Wait two minutes and request it once more. Then switch to the venue’s messenger and arrange the appointment there. On K-Beauty Station the messenger button sits in the footer of the store page, beside online booking where the store offers it. On the English pages it is WhatsApp: 134 of the 137 stores listed in English carried one on 16 September 2026. A booking made that way is a booking. Do not assume an account or a sent message is a confirmed appointment — wait for the reply that names a date and a time.
What we did not check
- Whether any individual carrier delivers Korean short-code SMS. This varies by carrier and by roaming agreement, and no page publishes it. Test a Korean verification code before you rely on it, not on the day of the appointment.
- What the messengers answer. We counted which channels the 137 store pages publish, and how many stores share a number. We did not send messages, so response times and languages of reply are not measured here.
- Last-registration times. No store page in this count publishes one, including GU Clinic’s. If you are arriving within an hour of closing, ask.
- Prices of SIMs and eSIMs. They move between providers and seasons; the provider’s own page on the day you buy is the only figure worth having.

Do I need a Korean number to book a skin clinic?

Can I make a KakaoTalk account with my home number?
Yes, if it can receive the verification SMS. Some carriers block Korean short-code SMS; a data-only eSIM does not help with that because the code goes to your home SIM, and a Korean SIM gives you a different number rather than fixing the old one.
Do I even need KakaoTalk to book these places?
Not on the English pages. Of the 137 K-Beauty Station stores listed in English on 16 September 2026, the English consultation channel was WhatsApp on 134 and WeChat on 1 — none offered KakaoTalk in English. The Japanese and Traditional Chinese pages use LINE and the Simplified Chinese pages use WeChat, so the messenger you need depends on the language you read the page in, not on where your SIM is from.
Which should I pick?
If you only need maps, messengers and translation, roaming or a data-only eSIM covers the whole booking flow — keep your home SIM active so verification codes still arrive.
